LEARNING TO USE THE DEAF ALPHABET DEVELOPS COORDINATION & SPELLING
Let your child copy these signs from the Deaf Alphabet. By trying to get the correct finger positions for the Deaf Alphabet, she will improve her fine coordination and visual motor integration (VMI). VMI is the ability to look at a visual stimulus (such as a drawing or a posture) and work out how to move your body to copy what you see. It is very important for learning to write because writing is a collection of drawn symbols (letters) that we learn to copy. Your child will enjoy learning words from her spelling lists and will be improving her VMI at the same time.
Teach your child about signing and why deaf people use it, you will develop her understanding of people with disability.
