Let my ideas soar to the beckoning sky.
Don’t keep me trapped
Inside your box of rules
Parameters and traditions.
My mind wants to fly.
A starship to explore galaxies
Of new ideas.
When I move and touch
And feel and smell,
My brain awakes
My thoughts take flight.
New ideas link to the old.
A new future takes shape
Bright and bold.
Socrates taught people to think
No desks, no ink.
Under a tree Newton found gravity.
Einstein found relativity.
Not at school,
Where he was labelled a fool.
Freed from his desk
He let his mind soar.
I don’t know if my thoughts have the power
Of those who went before.
But I know my mind’s connections
Are brighter, faster
When they are set free from my desk,
Past traditions,
Present restrictions.
Encourage me
To question,
To touch, hold, be bold,
Even to make mistakes!
Exploring galaxies of ideas
Is mankind’s life adventure.
Each generation’s task
To teach the next to go further
Than the last.
So take me out of the class,
Let me move
Use all my senses.
Let my mind soar among the galaxies.
Teach me to fly!
